In December 1999 PUENTE THEATRE was invited to participate in the seventh Mexican, and first Hispano-American, Pastorela Festival in Mexico City. The group presented the play “Pastorela de Juan Tierra el Inmigrante”.
Pastorelas have their origin in the medieval mystery plays, and tell of the struggle between Good and Evil for the possession of the souls of humans. They have become an instrument for communities to express issues and concerns. To date, they are celebrated annually in different localities in Mexico and are hugely popular celebrations.
